CAUSES OF HEART ATTACK

A heart attack occurs when the flow of blood to the heart is blocked. It is mainly blocked because of the high quantity of fats in the blood( Cholesterol ) and forms plaque in the arteries that feed the heart. This plaque sometimes ruptures and forms a clot that blocks blood flow. The interrupted blood flow can damage part of the heart muscles. In such a case, the said person should call for emergency service.

VARIATION IN SYMPTOMS

Different people may vary in symptoms or may have different severity of symptoms. Some people may have mild pain in the chest whereas some may have severe pain in the chest which moves into the left arm. Some of them have warning signs whereas some of them strike suddenly. of people complain of chest pain while running or walking and feel comfortable when at rest. Such signs shouldn’t be ignored and should be taken seriously.

WHEN TO ACT

Some people wait too long because of their carelessness and may lose their precious life. If anybody has such symptoms he/she should immediately consult a heart specialist. If not possible the said person can take the help of any family members in shifting him/her to the hospital. The person having such symptoms is advised not to drive because the condition can worsen which can prove to be dangerous for both the patient and other people sitting inside.

STEPS TO FOLLOW

The patient can take nitroglycerin if prescribed by a doctor. Take it as instructed while awaiting emergency help.

The patient can take Aspirin if prescribed by the doctor. During a heart attack, it could reduce heart damage by helping to keep the patient’s blood thin and help the blood move through the arteries smoothly, and prevent the heart muscles from further damage.

WHAT TO DO

If anybody happens to come across such a person whom you believe has a heart attack. Immediately call emergency services. Check the pulse of the said person. If the person is not breathing or there is no pulse going on start giving CPR. Push hard and fast on the said person’s chest in a rapid rhythm of about 100-120 compressions within a minute. If you don’t know how to give CPR, you can perform chest compressions simply. You can also try to open the airway by using rescue breathing.

RISK FACTORS

1. Men above 45 years and women above 55 are more likely to have a heart attack.

2. Tobacco smokers and chewers are more prone to this disease.

3. People suffering from Hypertension ( HIGH BP ) are also more prone because high B.P can damage our blood arteries which may be a cause of a heart attack. it’s very important for everybody suffering from hypertension to maintain their B.P. Other people who are in the danger zone are obese people, people having high cholesterol, high triglycerides, or diabetes.

HIGH CHOLESTEROL OR TRIGLYCERIDE LEVELS

A high level of L.D.L (Low-density lipoprotein or bad cholesterol ) may narrow the blood arteries. A high level of triglycerides (Type of fat ) can also increase the risk of a heart attack. Triglyceride is fat-related to our diet. High-density Lipoprotein (H.D.L or good Cholesterol) decreases the risk of a heart attack.

METABOLIC SYNDROME

This syndrome occurs when somebody is suffering from obesity, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar level. A person suffering from this syndrome is twice more likely to develop heart disease.

Family history of heart attacks, lack of physical exercise, intake of high quantity of fats, stress, illicit drug use, an autoimmune condition, and history of preeclampsia are the other reasons which can cause heart-related problems.
