It is a very commonly used sentence that the first impression is the last. This is practically true. Whenever we meet any person for the first time, we greet the person. Greet means to welcome somebody. Now the point is that how make this greet impressive? While greeting a person if a gentle smile is added to it, our greeting becomes beautified and if a little bit of concern is added to it, transforms your greeting. Showing concern means adding some words with a gentle smile like, how are you doing? how are you and your family etc.? This concern leaves an impression on the other person’s mind, which is never forgotten by that person. That person will never forget you.

SITUATION IN WHICH SOME PEOPLE DON’T FEEL COMFORTABLE

Some of us don’t feel comfortable when such people are in front of a person for the first time. Such people usually hide their bodies unconsciously. It’s an automatic reaction that occurs because of their shy nature. Their shyness compels them to do so. Some of them fold their arms in front of their chest, some put their hands in their pockets and some of them stand behind a chair or a table. Such people tend to sit in the direction from where they aren’t fully visible. Such actions are not performed cautiously.

NEVER HIDE YOUR BODY

So, never hide your body. Try to open it, whenever you are greeting a person for the first time. When you are standing in an open posture in front of others, sends positive signals to the brain of the other person. These signals are positive. Open body posture means that you are comfortable with the other person. It also means that you have nothing to hide from that person, and like to continue with the conversation.

START WITH A COMPLIMENT

Another powerful component of creating your impression is just beginning your conversation with a compliment. If you start with it, the other person starts listening to you seriously. When we meet the other person for the first time, there is nervousness somewhere in the back of the brain in everybody. Both the first-time meters have the same state of mind. Some of us who are more exposed to such situations feel less nervous whereas the less exposed people feel more nervous. A more exposed person has a high confidence level and he/she meets a stranger with confidence. He/she doesn’t allow others to judge his/her nervousness. If you start your conversation with a compliment, it helps in reducing the nervousness in others’ minds.

STATE OF COMFORT

The person starts feeling comfortable and in such a case he/she may open up and may conversate with you wholeheartedly. The compliments you can use to begin your conversation are: I had heard a lot about you and wanted to meet you too and finally, I got the opportunity. This may sound to be a very small sentence but this sentence may make your conversation alive. You may be able to end the nervousness in others’ minds by using such a compliment. You can also begin, by appreciating the clothes, personality or the way of talking, etc of the other person. So, we can say that complimenting create a positive image in others’ mind. If after reading this article you are impressed, you can also compliment me. It’s another way of creating a good impression, that too in the first meeting.

USE 30 SECOND RULE

You must be wondering about this 30-second rule. It’s that whenever you are meeting a person for the first time, you are supposed to end his/her nervousness in just 30- seconds. You have to encourage the other person to mix up with you that too in 30 seconds. Now you must be wondering how is it possible. The biggest problem with most of us is that we feel that by using complex or heavy words in English, we can create a good impression in others’ brains which is wrong. Most people don’t feel comfortable listening to these words and even some of them even don’t understand the meaning of those words.

START WITH A SIMPLE AND COMFORTABLE WAY

Simple funda is that start conversation in the language, others feel comfortable with. You can’t create a long-lasting impression by maintaining a distance whether it’s language vice or status vice. You can make others feel comfortable by beginning with certain words, gestures, or some sort of act. Remember, your first impression is marked when you start showing interest in, what others are saying. Just imagine a situation in which you are talking to any person and he is just ignoring you and is not listening to what you are saying. What will be your reaction? You definitely will either leave the conversation or will stop discussing.

IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE CONVERSATION

In the same way, if you are not listening to, what others are saying, will create a negative impression of yours. You must have heard several times that be a good listener but the fact is that you have to be a good listener with interest, to create a long-lasting impression on others. This way you certainly create a solid first impression of yourself on others. If you are listening to others with interest, even if a question is asked you, you will be able to answer it, that too without taking time. It will help you in developing a long-lasting impression.

CONVERSATION RATIO

The conversation ratio also plays an important role in creating a solid first impression. It should be around 80:20. If 80% of words are spoken by the other person, you are supposed to speak 20% part of the whole conversation If you want to create a good first impression then remember one more thing which is that you have to answer or participate in 20%, that too in a playful way. If you are asked a question while a conversation about the topic, in that case, your answer shouldn’t be a boring one. The answers should be given playfully.

EXAMPLE

I will try to explain it with the help of an example. Suppose you are asked,” What would you like to have?” Your answer shouldn’t be tea or coffee. You can playfully answer this just as, I would love to have tea or you can also reply let’s begin our conversation with a cup of coffee and have to be innovative in answering. You must have the art of creating humor in every situation. It certainly helps in creating a positive impression that too in your first meeting.

TRY TO ESTABLISH A CONNECTION

Always try to establish a connection, whenever you meet a person for the first time. It also helps in making you an impressive person. This also makes you impressive and you can’t be forgotten by others. You have to search for that connection. I again will try to explain it with the help of an example. Suppose you are an Indian and have settled in America. If you happen to meet an Indian in America, you will feel happy. In such a situation your connection with the said person is established. There is a connection between every person, the only person is that we have to establish it. There is a connection between you and me also.

CONNECTION BETWEEN YOU AND ME

That is, I write articles on different topics and you read them. This means that a connection between you and myself has also been established. A  connection is established if both persons have something common in them. Maybe their profession, their interest or any other thing. It’s very much clear that to establish a relationship, we have to search for a common thing. It seems to be a difficult task but in fact, it becomes very easy when we start a conversation with the other person. It will also help in enhancing your impression forever.
